Threads of Justice Collective

Supporting young children in anti-bias education by facilitating conversations and efforts for collective action against oppression

THE Problem

The existence of bias, racism and discrimination negatively impacts all children’s social/emotional development. It diminishes every child’s potential in life and is dangerous and even life threatening for children of color and children in other targeted and marginalized groups.

THE SOLUTION

Teachers play a central role in children’s lives.
When they are given the information and tools to counter bias and oppression, they can be
powerful participants and activists for change.

Our Approach

  • Building a strong Network:

Convening people with shared experience, varying fields of specialties, roles, and interests to work together to identify, understand and solve issues of injustice as it impacts the lives and learning of young children.

  • Creating more inclusive and just Policy:

Positioning ourselves and our allies to advocate for anti-bias/anti-oppression priorities with policymakers.

  • Provide/ Promote Training:

Facilitation of workshops and educational training sessions related to addressing oppression and building resistance skills for adults who work with children, parents, and children family child care providers, center-based teachers working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children, their families and communities.

  • Generate Solutions:

Create and disseminate tools and materials to support teachers/providers/parents, and community organizations focused on young children at local and state levels, and multiple language communities to increase understanding and implementation of anti-bias/anti-oppression development grounded in culturally specific practices and contexts.

“The facilitators were absolutely amazing! I really appreciated the facilitator process. It just felt so much more authentic THAN going to a training and being talked at, instead of talked with! Being able to "feel" the information instead of just listening to it made a world of difference tome!”

“I still need more time to dive in and process…so that means that I took a lot of knowledge and have more work to do.

This is a transformational training.”

- TOJC Participant

“I could not have done something more meaningful and relevant to where I am on my search for change.”

- TOJC Participant

“I'm excited to apply what I've learned in my work to empower others and challenge systems tainted by white supremacy. With this knowledge, I hope to create spaces filled with joy where everyone feels valued and respected. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that every individual has the chance to grow, receive support, and experience love .”
