The Problem

The existence of bias, racism and discrimination negatively impacts all children’s social/emotional development. It diminishes every child’s potential in life and is dangerous and even life threatening for children of color and children in other targeted and marginalized groups.

When they are given the information and tools to counter bias and oppression, they can be powerful participants and activists for change.

Teachers play a central role in children’s lives

THE SOLUTION

Our Strategy

  • Justice and Inclusion Toolkits

Learning kits supporting culturally specific groups on social identity categories for use with home visit programs, families, and early childhood learning environments along with basic introductory level training for the Early Childhood Education workforce.

  • Anti-Bias Trainers Registry and Training Menu

Available on the website and connected to community partners to ensure the early education field has training and resources to support a growing capacity of advocacy and practice in anti-bias content and social equity in the community

  • Anti-Bias Certification

Foundational and leadership certificates provided under a training, coaching and mentoring model. Workshops available in multiple delivery modalities for inclusion.

The Approach

  • Building a strong Network:

Convening people with shared experience, varying fields of specialties, roles, and interests to work together to identify, understand and solve issues of injustice as it impacts the lives and learning of young children.

  • Creating more inclusive and just Policy:

Positioning ourselves and our allies to advocate for anti-bias/anti-oppression priorities with policymakers.

  • Provide/ Promote Training:

Facilitation of workshops and educational training sessions related to addressing oppression and building resistance skills for adults who work with children, parents, and children family child care providers, center-based teachers working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children, their families and communities.

  • Generate Solutions:

Create and disseminate tools and materials to support teachers/providers/parents, and community organizations focused on young children at local and state levels, and multiple language communities to increase understanding and implementation of anti-bias/anti-oppression development grounded in culturally specific practices and contexts.
