Support Our Work
Dear Friends of the Threads of Justice Collective,
As 2025 comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude for the support that has enabled us to have our most active year yet! In the face of widespread national turmoil, the Threads of Justice Collective continues to support justice and inclusion, serving as a beacon of hope and a gathering place.
This year’s efforts included beginning the process of translating our Justice and Inclusion Toolkit: For Young Children and Their Grownups into Spanish. The Toolkit and workshops include information, activities, and resources to support children's identity and address oppression in the six core identity areas: Culture and Language, Race and Skin Color, Gender, Family Structure, Economic Class, and Abilities.
This has been our busiest year ever, which included responding to numerous requests for workshops and trainings, as well as new collaborations with community partners. Over the past year, we have had more than 600 participants in 14 counties across Oregon (nearly quadrupling our reach from the previous year). We completed three sessions of our Anti-Bias Leadership Seminar (ABLS) and two sessions of the Building Anti-Racist Learning Spaces (BARLS) and partnered with Early Learning Systems Initiative (ELSI) to launch the first BARLS course in Spanish. We also graduated five new individuals from our second cohort of Emerging Facilitators and launched two new series: Pro-Justice Parenting and White People's Work. 2025 also included our 3rd Annual Hadiyah Miller Legacy Gathering, where we honored founding member Hadiyah Miller on her 70th birthday by dedicating a learning space to her life's work, featuring a portrait and plaque in the Preschool For All Conference Rooms at Rockwood Market Hall.
Additionally, we partnered with Teaching Preschool Partners, Child Care Resource and Referral of Multnomah County, and Anti-Bias Leaders ECE for a three-part training and film series called “Another World Possible: Anti-Bias Education with Young Children and Families.” Facilitated various workshops with Oregon Infant Mental Health Association (ORIMHA), The Oregon Community Health Workers Association (ORCHWA), Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWERSD), Willamette Education Service District (WESD), 18th Annual Northwest Teaching for Social Justice Conference, Harmony Montessori, and began s workshop series with Neighborhood House. The Threads of Justice Collective concludes 2025 with “Understanding and Supporting our Indigequeer Youth and Community” through the Transgression Exhibit, in collaboration with the University of Oregon's Natural and Cultural History Museum.
This work has been possible through some grant funding from the Collins and Pride Foundation. We’ve also applied for grants with the Meyer Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, and the Portland Children’s Levy.
Heading into 2026, we will offer a workshop on Personal Dolls and market and disseminate all our resources and events with the support of our new Social Media intern. This intern will help broaden our online presence through our website and social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. In addition, we will be working with a PSU MSW student completing an internship focused on infant–toddler mental health, who brings a strong passion for culture work and storytelling and will collaborate with us on new programming. We will also offer more BARLS (in English and Spanish) and ABLS workshops, our 4th annual Hadiay Miller Gathering, plus aim to have a few workshops created in languages other than English, plus more!
As the tone and climate in our country continue to fan the flames of exclusion and injustice, the Threads of Justice Collective, along with many other justice-oriented organizations, faces a potentially challenging future. We stand firm in our commitment to voice our opposition to decisions and policies that threaten the lives and increase the marginalization of the children, families, and communities that we serve. As some funding sources are disappearing, we hold on to the hope that others will emerge. The great Ella Baker said, “We who believe in freedom cannot rest.” We know you stand with us.
A gift of $25 can help provide stipends to the team maintaining the website and social media, enabling them to create regular posts that share the tools we develop. A gift of $50 or more will help our effort to have our materials and resources translated. If you are truly thinking big, a gift of $2,000 would underwrite half of the cost for our two in-depth courses: Building Anti-Racist Learning Spaces and Anti-Bias Leadership Seminar. Both of these intensive courses are expensive to offer because of the long hours involved. If we could secure a donation of $2,000 from an individual or business, we could significantly reduce the cost to participants. If this is something you would like to consider, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
If you are willing and able to contribute, you can easily give online by following the link or by mailing a check to: Threads of Justice Collective, 1130 NW First St, Gresham, OR 97030
No gift is too big or too small; we welcome donations of any amount--all donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for your support. We stand with you in solidarity as we approach the New Year!
With love,
Threads of Justice Collective

2023 in Review
We are so grateful to be reflecting on another year of facilitating anti-bias work and supports in our community. This year we completed our series of self-paced online workshops that are a companion to our Justice and Inclusion Toolkit: For Young Children and their Grownups. Not only are the workshops available to a diverse range of practitioners, they were created by many members of our community - current and past TOJC board members, teachers, education specialists, artists, mentor teachers, etc. It has been a pleasure to co-create these resources!
We have had a very busy year of in-person workshops! We have loved getting to know so many early learning professionals and learning contexts in the Portland area. To support this increasing in-person presence we are looking forward to launching our Emerging Facilitators program next year!
This year we are thrilled to have been the recipients of several new grants and partnerships - including from the Oregon Community Foundation and a partnership with ELSI Inclusion and Oregon State University. Stay tuned for exciting work, learning, and resources coming out next year!

2022 in Review
As 2022 comes to an end, we want to take a moment to say thank you for all of your support this year which has enabled us to have a productive and successful year. A dedicated team has invested time to take our Justice and Inclusion Toolkit: For Young Children and Their Grownups project and create 7 online workshops on how to incorporate anti-bias education philosophies into their teaching practice. We want to recognize their efforts and acknowledge the power of this collective effort. These resources are for all adults in the lives of young children, and in particular early childhood care and education providers and parents. The Toolkit and workshops include information, activities, and resources for supporting children's identity and addressing oppression in the six core identity areas of: Culture and Language, Race and Skin Color, Gender, Family Structure, Economic Class, and Abilities. This project was funded with grants from, local and international Social Venture Partners.
We have also spent a lot of time this year broadening our online presence through our new website and social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. With technical support from SVP, we are working hard to maintain our website and social media platforms where people will be able to hear more about us, access upcoming resources, and purchase the new Toolkit. In 2023, expect to see more frequent postings for the Threads of Justice Collective.
Despite continuing covid challenges, Threads of Justice Collective has returned to providing in-person professional development training for childcare providers in the Portland metro area. Most notably, the Celebration of the Life of Hadiyah Miller and a Gathering of People in Early Childhood Education who are invested in Justice and Inclusion in December 2022. In the fall of 2022, the Threads of Justice Collective lost one of our founding members, Hadiayh Miller, and our collective heart is broken with this loss of our sister-leader, friend and comrade in the fight for justice and inclusion for young children. In honor of Hadiyah and her legacy, this will become an annual event hosted by the Threads of Justice Collective.
While we reflect on the wonderful year behind us, we are focused on the great year ahead of us. At the Celebration of the Life of Hadiyah Miller and a Gathering of People in Early Childhood Education who are invested in Justice and Inclusion, we put our minds together to reflect on What are the most important issues, needs and priorities children and families face in regard to specific aspects of their identity? In 2023, we plan to take those collective thoughts and use them to create an additional series of online learning opportunities for adults caring for young children.
